Fast implementation
HOS can provide you with Ascend-HI for SQL Server/Windows
within a few days after receiving your licensing agreement and initial payment.
Then we’ll get you implemented in a fraction of the time that it takes other vendors.
You can also count on our implementation process being the easiest. Just ask our
customers.
HOS is experienced, established and diversified
HOS has been providing healthcare software since 1987 and has been growing at a
healthy rate every year. HOS is privately owned, and directed by a pharmacist,
Phillip Hann, Pharm.D. The company also has numerous pharmacists and nurses on their senior management
team, and their influence is a tremendous benefit to our program design. Furthermore,
HOS staff have over 100 years of combined experience in home infusion practice and
software/support services. HOS began by developing the "IV-Ease" infusion
program, software that was distributed by ASHP. In 1994, we created a program
specifically for the home infusion market, "IV-Ease Home Infusion". Soon
after, we were proud to make Ascend-IV for Windows available, the first Windows-based
home infusion program on the market. In 2002, we released Ascend-HI for use with
Microsoft's SQL Server database. HOS also provides
pharmacy and medication-management software for acute care hospitals, rehabilitation
facilities, surgical centers, critical access facilities, and many other types of
inpatient and outpatient facilities. HOS’s broad experience across the healthcare
continuum sets us apart from other home infusion vendors, and enables us to closely
relate to our customers regardless of their practice setting or experiences. Other
home infusion vendors just can’t match HOS’s diversified source of revenues and
healthcare expertise.
Ascend-HI was designed specifically for use with SQL Server
In 2002, HOS completely redesigned our home infusion program to take full advantage
of SQL Server technology, to be sure the program could meet modern needs, and to
ensure the program had a new, flexible architecture. Other vendors may have provided
an updated version of their software with a new "front end", but may also
continue to use their old database record layout. Some vendors even convert to another
database without “going the extra mile” (i.e., thoughtfully redesigning their entire
program as HOS did years ago).
Ascend-HI customers are located nationwide
Our customers get excellent support regardless of their location. In fact, 90% of
our customers are located in another state, or country. We provide the same timely,
high-level support (by phone, and/or by secure Internet connection) to customers
whether they are located across the country, or just across the city.
Integrity of financial data
Ascend-HI tracks "actual billed" dollar amounts and "allowable"
dollar amounts as discreet data. Therefore, with Ascend-HI's financial reports,
you can be assured that yo are viewing "actual" and "allowable"
revenues, whether they are for selected periods of time, or for specific claims,
patients, or payers. Some vendors may be incapable of clearly separating "actual"
and "allowable" revenues, and therefore may not be able to provide your
business with clear, usable financial data.
Accurate therapy data
Having access to reports with accurate therapy data is very important to managing
your home infusion business. Ascend-HI uses separate records for each “therapy”
the patient is receiving (e.g., TPN, hydration, antibiotic, pain management, and
etc). Each Ascend therapy record has its own “start” and “stop” date fields.
Since Ascend therapy records are stored separately from patient and order records,
one or more therapy records can be independently linked to one or more of the patient’s
orders. This Ascend design enables you to accurately report “days” and “costs” for
each therapy, regardless of how many orders are linked to each therapy, or how many
therapies are linked to one or more orders. Some vendors may not be able
to consistently report therapy data accurately, especially if their “therapy field”
is actually a part of their order record. In such cases, the order start and stop
dates define the therapy period. However, if the same therapy is used in
two or more of the patient’s orders, the reported therapy days could be erroneously
duplicated. You can be sure Ascend lets you control therapy records independently
of the order records, and thereby report summary therapy data accurately.
Easy export/import
Ascend-HI lets you “cut and paste” text from one field to another, from another
Windows program into Ascend, or from Ascend into another Windows program.
Furthermore, Ascend can export
ALL
its reports and labels to Excel, Word, or even as an Acrobat PDF. Our customers
tell us that these Ascend features are extremely useful, so be sure we show them
to you during your demonstration.
One integrated program
All Ascend-HI features are contained in one fully integrated program. Some vendors
sell their program as a "standard" version that requires you purchase
extra "modules" to obtain full functionality...and each extra module usually
carries an additional price tag! The complete Ascend-HI program usually costs
less than the other vendors' "standard" version.
One consistent database
Ascend-HI's database contains all of your data (patients, orders, claims, payers,
inventory, and etc.) in one location, without unnecessary duplication of data. This
allows Ascend-HI users to make edits in one step, or reverse their work in one step.
For example, with Ascend-HI you can "un-discontinue" a prescription in
one easy step, if necessary. Other vendors may require that you repeat the edit
in each of several modules, or your data will not be consistent in each module.
Ascend databases are also very space-efficient…each piece of information
is stored only once. Some vendors keep the same data (such as a doctor’s
name, address, and etc.) in multiple locations. Be sure your IT expert reviews Ascend’s
database and compares it to other vendors’ databases. Your IT staff will clearly
see that Ascend uses a well-designed, truly-relational database. Ascend customers
also have the advantage of centralized IT functions. For example, our database backups,
program and database updates, and database security can be controlled and managed
from one centralized server.
Interfaces
HOS can provide our Interface Engine, a separate program that can send or receive
data to/from a wide variety of healthcare information systems. For example,
we could populate Ascend patient demographic fields with data received electronically
from an affiliated hospital system. HOS has been creating interfaces to other vendor
systems since 1989 and is an expert in HL7 / TCPIP interface design.. In
the 1990’s, HOS taught HL7 interface programming methods to other vendors who were
still trying to get started. Hundreds of our customers already use our interfaces,
including interfaces with companies such as Pyxis, McKesson, Quadramed, Eclipsys,
Omnicell. Perot, SMS, Dairyland, Meditech, Amerisource-Bergen, and many, many more.
No other home infusion vendor’s interface experience comes even remotely close to
ours.
Maintenance includes all new features
Ascend-HI customers receive all new program features at no additional cost. Other
vendors may charge extra for new program modules. HOS does not "nickel and
dime" you!
Clinical and Pricing Databases included
Ascend-HI initial and monthly licensing fees already include monthly clinical and
pricing data updates. ICD9 and HCPC codes are also included with the program. Other
vendors may charge you extra for some or all of these "extra" data.
Flexibility and depth
Hann's On Software realizes each customer
has unique needs. We continue to build options into Ascend-HI to support this variability.
Ascend-HI options are usually added at no additional cost and are available to all our
customers. Our original investment in redesigning our home infusion software, concurrent
with our adoption of SQL Server, provided the infrastructure that makes this flexibility
and depth possible. Other vendors often take the easy way and provide simple
but more rigid offerings. They may charge their customers for each change they ask
for, even if their other customers will also receive it. Once you've paid for a
change, you may wait months to get it! Ascend-HI customers can configure most software
"changes" themselves, at no extra cost. When you shop for software,
be sure to look beyond each vendor’s advertised list of features. During our demonstration,
you’ll see that Ascend’s flexibility and depth of features are truly unparalleled.
One version to maintain
Hann's On Software can focus all their program
maintenance activities on one Ascend SQL version. Other vendors may have to split
their time by maintaining 2 or more versions.
24/7 support
Hann's On Software offers the highest level of support (24/7) as part of
our standard licensing agreement. Other vendors may charge you for their "standard"
support but only make it available during their office hours. They may make you
pay extra for what they call "premium" support (i.e., after business hours).
HOS relies on our customer's positive recommendations, so 24/7 support is the only
option we offer.
