Recent New Ascend-HI Program Features
- Customers can "turn off" drug interaction (DI) warnings for selected drug pairs.
- Other inventory items can be linked to a particular inventory record; selection
of the item will cause linked items to also be added to the order.
- Drug label warnings can be inserted at the bottom of your order labels.
- Add financial "Notes" to the patients profile
- The "Interfaces" tab lets you configure Ascend-HI to send ADT, Orders and Inventory
messages to other vendors via the Ascend Interface Engine.
- AmerisourceBergen InterfaceAn
optional interface program is now available to allow Ascend-HI purchase orders to
be imported directly into AmerisourceBergen's "Echo" product. This will save Echo
users significant time in sending their orders to AmerisourceBergen. The Ascend-HI/Echo
interface program can be licensed separately from Hann's On Software.
- Pictures of your patients can be linked to their record for easy access within the
Ascend-HI program.
- View your patient's medication history over several admissions.
- Use order entry codes to automatically schedule medication doses for your patients;
useful for ambulatory infusion centers/infusion suites.
- Access a state website from within Ascend-HI to validate any physician's state license
and expiration
- User-defined "data views" (i.e., customize queries) allow you to configure Ascend-HI
to present your data "your way".
- CURES controlled substances data export
- Web-based laboratory results reporting: HOS now provides
its Ascend-HI customers with a direct web-link to laboratory results from Home HealthCare

- Security records can be configured to allow users to enter only certain order types
(e.g., supplies)
- Pharmacists can edit orders they have entered, but prevent other users from editing
them
- Charge transaction merging is now partially automated
- The "TPN Data Sheet" provides a concise clinical summary of your patient's TPN statistics
and TPN formulation
- You can associate a "chair" to any patient and reserve a particular location (chair,
bed, etc) when you schedule a patient for future services.
- Orders can be optionally scheduled using regular or irregular dosing intervals.
- Nursing visits can be scheduled and documented on the patient's profile.
- Reminder messages for backups can have user-defined intervals, or can be turned
off
- AHI can automatically contact the HOS website to extend your update reminder and
license for an additional time period.
- You can optionally associate hospitals, units and rooms-beds with any of your patients
- Inventory items can be selected by description, NDC number or by charge code at
order time.
- BSA calculations include the “Gehan and George”, “Mosteller”, “DuBois and
“Haycock” formulas
- A barcode has been added to the patient's intake form for patient identification
purposes
- Purchase orders can be created in the inventory control area
- A barcode can be assigned to an inventory item
- Patients can be selected by name, patient Id, medical record number, social security
number, HICN and by Ascend-HI's internal reference number
- A "dosing data" screen displays body surface area, ideal body weight and ideal dosing
weight
- Medication doses can now be calculated by patient weight. You can enter the
dose on a "per kg" basis, or as an absolute amount, and any missing data will be
calculated and displayed automatically
- Specify a default number of labels to print for each order type
- See DME orders that are either active or discontinued and for which the DME item
has not been returned.
- Security Groups have been added to the program.
- Delivery tracking to cover ANY carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc.).
- AHI scans your ANSI X12 837 batch claims and advises you of any missing required
fields.
- “Clinical document” templates can be assigned to facilities.
- ”Multi-Facility” customers can link inventory items across facilities.
- Inventory security can be customized down to the field level.
- A new option tells the program to automatically keep going to the next pricing rule
until a price has been calculated.
- Pricing rules can have an expiration date.
- A new “Inventory Group” filter is provided for DME reports.
- An order can be linked to a room assignment to automatically appear on the patient’s
profile.
- A new security option allows administrators to require a workstation program update
when a new version is available.
- Inventory record changes can be “pushed” to multiple facilities if desired.
- Ascend-HI now supports the new First Databank NDDF Plus database.
- During order entry, if the program warns you that an item isn't in stock, a new
administrative setting can require that another item be selected. These warnings
can be pre-set at an inventory record level and/or globally.
- The program allows you to pre-schedule room/bed/chair assignments.
- “Billing messages” stored in inventory records can display on billing the item.
- A “physical description” field has been added to each inventory record.
- All price changes (Cost, AWP, Red Book, Retail and ASP) are logged.
- You can optionally require that orders be “confirmed”.
- You can create different security groups (pharmacists, billers, etc.) and create
“permissions” for each group.
- Billers can be assigned to specific payers so they only see their payers during
financial processes.
- The First Databank search screen displays the unit AWP price and the package AWP
price.
- A User can be assigned access to all facilities if desired.
- The program will ask the user which primary payer should be billed if more than
one is assigned to the patient.
- A security option prevents editing an order after it has been billed.
- Order prescription counter options include “Rx Counter 1”, “Rx Counter 2” and “Supply
Counter 1”.
- You can create a link to your own custom help document (Microsoft Word file) in
the Ascend-HI Help menu. Doctor “specialties” are now user-defined.
- Minimum/Maximum dosing ranges include 3 categories: pediatric, adult and geriatric.
- Required fields are readily apparent on the admission screen.
- A quick “profile view” option displays refill quantities and authorized refills.
- You can assign an order type to a common order at order entry time or it can be
pre-assigned in the common order template.
- The “Payer Policy Number”, “Payer Group” and “Payer Subscriber” fields are now included
in our HHLA laboratory interface messages.
- Drug Utilization reports can be based on drug descriptions, NDC or ChargeCode.
- The Clinical Intervention report can be filtered for Completed and Incomplete Clinical
Interventions.
- A new Inventory Waste report is available for tracking damaged, lost and/or expired
items/lots.
